The original brewery on Alexandra Road

Seated are representatives from Heineken and Fraser and Neave;

On 15th April 1931, Heineken formed a joint venture with a major Singapore soft drinks company, Fraser and Neave (F&N). This joint venture company was then named Malayan Breweries Ltd. Heineken had all the necessary technical expertise, having brewed beer since 1873, but it was having difficulty entering the local market. And so Heineken found the right partner in F&N, which had the necessary market knowledge and capital, and strong distribution network to build a brewery from the ground up. The first batch of Tiger Beer was brewed on 1st Oct 1932 at the original Tiger Beer brewery located on Alexandra Road.
