The 1st Singapore Antarctica Expedition

Antarctica 2000 was officially launched at the Istana on 12 March 1999 by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and was regarded by him as another manifestation of the indomitable spirit of the people in Singapore.

Tiger Beer was one of the sponsors, which collectively contributed S$820,000 in cash and equipment for the expedition. On 31st Dec 1999, the team successfully reached the South Pole after an arduous 1,125 km trek that had taken nearly two months to complete.
